The Opportunity
Blackbook Associates is searching for a Director of Product Development to join a well-established and highly respected private credit platform as it expands its structured credit capabilities across the US insurance market.
This is a senior build-out hire. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping how the firm designs, structures, and delivers regulatory capital-efficient solutions to insurance investors - sitting at the intersection of product innovation, structuring execution, and commercial growth.
The Firm
Our client is a leading private credit GP with deep institutional relationships and a growing footprint in insurance-dedicated capital. The structured credit platform is a strategic priority, backed by senior leadership and resourced for significant scale.
The Role
Reporting into senior platform leadership, you will:
- Design and execute NAIC-compliant investment vehicles and regulatory capital-efficient structures tailored to insurance balance sheets
- Develop and scale the firm's suite of structured credit products, including CFOs, CLOs, rated feeder funds, and bespoke insurance solutions
- Partner with portfolio management, legal, tax, and distribution teams to bring new products from concept through to launch
- Act as a technical and commercial point of contact for insurance LPs, rating agencies, and structuring counterparties
- Solve complex structuring challenges in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment where product innovation is genuinely valued
Who We're Looking For
This is a specialist seat. We expect candidates to bring:
- A current or recent role at an insurance firm, insurance asset manager, or rating agency — with a clear interest in transitioning into a private credit GP
- Demonstrable experience structuring NAIC-compliant vehicles, CFOs, CLOs, rated feeders, and regulatory capital-efficient products for insurance investors
- Fluency across both product innovation and execution — equally comfortable at the whiteboard and in the weeds of documentation, rating agency dialogue, and deal closing
- A track record of working cross-functionally with investment, legal, and distribution teams
- The commercial instincts to help scale a platform, not just maintain one
Director-level candidates only. Prior GP experience is not required — insurance-side and rating agency backgrounds are actively encouraged.
Compensation
Total comp of $500k–$600k all-in, with genuine upside north of $1m based on performance and platform growth. Full benefits and long-term incentive participation included.
Process
All conversations are handled in strict confidence. Interested candidates — or those who'd like to discuss the mandate before formally engaging — are welcome to reach out directly.
